This policy provides guidance for employee use of social media, which should be broadly understood for purposes of this policy to include blogs, wikis, microblogs, message boards, chat rooms, electronic newsletters, online forums, social networking sites, and other sites and services that permit users to share information with others in a contemporaneous manner.
The following principles apply to professional use of social media on behalf of NEXA Mortgage, LLC (hereinafter referred to as NEXA), as well as personal use of social media when referencing NEXA or listing NEXA as your employer.
Employees need to know and adhere to the Employee Handbook, and other company policies when using social media in reference to NEXA Mortgage.
Employees should be aware of the effect their actions may have on their image, as well as NEXA’s image. Information posted or published may remain public for a long time.
Employees should be aware that NEXA Mortgage may observe content and information made available by employees through social media. Use best judgment in posting material that is neither inappropriate nor harmful to NEXA, its employees, or customers.
Prohibited conduct includes posting commentary, content, or images that are defamatory, pornographic, proprietary, harassing, libelous, or that can create a hostile environment.
Employees must not publish, post, or release confidential or non-public information. If unsure, check with Human Resources or a supervisor.
Social media networks and blogs may generate press, media attention, or legal questions. Refer such inquiries to authorized NEXA spokespersons.
If a situation on social media becomes antagonistic, employees should disengage politely and seek supervisor advice.
Employees should obtain permission before referring to or posting images of current or former employees, members, vendors, or suppliers. Permission is also required for use of third-party copyrighted materials, trademarks, service marks, or intellectual property.
Social media use should not interfere with employee responsibilities at NEXA. Company computer systems are for business use only. Business-related social media use is permitted (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, NEXA blogs, LinkedIn), but personal use is discouraged and may result in disciplinary action.
Subject to applicable law, after-hours online activity that violates NEXA’s Code of Conduct or other company policy may result in disciplinary action or termination.
If employees publish after-hours content involving NEXA, a disclaimer should be used:
“The postings on this site are my own and may not represent NEXA’s positions, strategies or opinions.”
It is highly recommended that employees keep NEXA-related social media accounts separate from personal accounts, if practical.
